Q1. Viscosity of a fluid with specific Gravity = 1.3 is measured to be 0.0034 N-S/M2 its Kinematic Viscosity in M/S2 is _________ ? (SSC JE_2016)
Solution,
Specific Gravity of The Fluid = 1.3
So, The density of the fluid = 1.3x1000=1300
We Know, Kinematic Viscosity x density = Dynamic Viscosity ( Viscosity)
Kinematic viscosity=(Viscosity/Density)
=(0.0034/1300)
= 2.6 x 10-6 N/M2
Q2. Reduction coefficient of a Reinforced concrete column with an effective length of 4.8 m and size 250 x 300 mm2 is---?(SSC JE_2016)
Solution,
As per IS-456 Reduction Coefficient of Column = 1.25 – ( Leff/48D) or 1.25 – ( Leff/48B) Whichever is Less
=1.25 – ( 4.8/48x0.25) or 1.25 – ( 4.8/48x0.3)
= 0.85 or 0.95
So the Reduction Coefficient = 0.85
Q3. The Pressure in meters of oil ( Specific Gravity = 0.85 ) equivalent to 42.5 m of water is--? (SSC-2016)
Solution, Pressure head in terms of oil in meter = Pressure head in terms of water/Specific gravity
= (42.5/0.85) = 50 m
Q4. For 1 sqm of single brick flat soling ( Conventional size ) the numbers of brick required ? (SSC-2012)
Number of Brick Required = 1/(0.25x0.125) (Size of conventional brick = 250 mmx125mmx75mm)
=32 Nos
Q4.Determine the number of cement bags required for a standard brick masonry work for a wall of thickness 30cm for height of 10 m and length 200 m in 1:4 mortar. ( SSC-2014)
Specific Gravity of The Fluid = 1.3
So, The density of the fluid = 1.3x1000=1300
We Know, Kinematic Viscosity x density = Dynamic Viscosity ( Viscosity)
Kinematic viscosity=(Viscosity/Density)
=(0.0034/1300)

Q4.Determine the number of cement bags required for a standard brick masonry work for a wall of thickness 30cm for height of 10 m and length 200 m in 1:4 mortar. ( SSC-2014)
Volume of brickwork = 200x10x0.300 = 600 m3
Volume of one brick with mortar = 0.200x0.100x0.100 m3
Brick required for 600 m3 Brick work =
600/(0.2x0.1x0.1) = 300000 Nos
Volume of 300000 Nos brick with out
mortar = 461.7 m3
Volume of mortar required = ( 600 –
461.7 ) = 138.3 m3
Increase 20% for frog feeling and
wastage = 138.3x1.2 = 165.96 m3
Increase 33% for dry volume =
165.96x1.33 = 220.73 m3
Ratio of Cement and sand in mortar = 1
: 4
Therefore, volume of cement = 220.73/5
= 44.1454 m3
Volume of one bag cement = 0.034 m3
Therefore, cement bags required is =
44.1454/0.034 = 1298.393 nos
= 1300 Nos (say)
